SHADOWPLAY STREET FURNITURE

SHADOWPLAY is a street furniture as well as a public sculpture that contributes to the musical tradition in Athens, Georgia. The reversed L-shaped structure consists of a series of looped steel rebar whose linearity resembles a blank musical staff. The shelter casts various shadows onto the street and sidewalk as light angles change from dawn to dusk, and is constructed with a series of rebar loops whose ends are anchored to an L-shaped concrete bench. A continuous 18 feet long pre-treated steel rebar is crisscrossed to provide structural strength and is in turn bent to create a simple L-shape structure.
