갤러리, 북샵, 레스토랑, 독특한 스토어 등으로 가득한 서울의 문화거리 가로수길. 바로 이곳에 호주스킨케어 브랜드 이솝이 국내 첫 시그니처 스토어를 오픈했다. 국내 건축설계사무소 WISE 건축과 이솝의 협업으로 탄생한 이솝의 첫 시그니처 스토어는 40제곱미터라는 공간 안에 심플함으로 잘 알려진 WISE 건축의 색깔이 그대로 묻어납니다. 또한 그 지역의 역사와 전통을 존중하고, 이를 제대로 살려줄 수 있는 심플하면서 정직한 소재를 혁신적인 방식으로 사용하려는 이솝의 디자인 철학을 잘 구현하고 있다.

 매장 공간의 작은 부분까지도 이솝만의 철학이 고스란히 드러나는 노력이 엿보인다. 먼저 스토어의 입구에는 주변의 바쁜 도로와 이솝의 공간을 구분시켜주는 화강암으로 만들어진 넓은 문턱이 자리잡고 있다. 아주 연한 옥색 컬러의 수작업으로 만들어진 한국의 전통 종이 한지가 스토어 내부에 주를 이루어, 전체적인 색상과 질감, 그리고 스토어 분위기를 부드러움으로 장식한다.

 한 개의 국산 소나무로 만들어진 약 5m 길이의 테이블이 중앙에 길게 배치되어 계산대 공간으로 사용되고 있고, 바닥에는 코이어 매트가 깔려있으며, 제품 디스플레이 선반은 국산 목재로 만들어졌습니다. Charles Pollack의 빈티지 의자, Gaetano Sciolari의 펜던트 조명과 군데군데 눈에 띄는 블랙 스틸은 전체 매장 분위기에서 절제된 차별을 보여준다.

 식물성 원료와 더불어 최고 품질의 화학성분을 균형 있게 활용하여 만든 스킨케어, 헤어케어, 바디케어제품 등 모든 레인지의 이솝 제품이 진열되어 있으며, 숙련된 이솝 컨설턴트들이 고객 개개인에 맞는 제품 안내를 제공한다.

Aesop Garosu-Gil

 This week Aesop announced the opening of its first Korean signature store, in Garosu-Gil?a neighbourhood noted for a profusion of galleries, bookshops, restaurants, distinctive retailers, and the rich cultural life they have engendered. Created in collaboration with local firm WISE Architecture, the design for the 40-square metre space is in keeping with other WISE projects lauded for their streamlined forms, and with Aesop’s preference for innovative use of simple, honest materials that draw on local history and tradition.

 Its subtlety is evident initially in the broad granite stepping stone at the entrance that marks a departure from the busy pavement beyond; and effected within by walls covered with pale-hued hanji ? traditional handmade paper ? which impart an enveloping softness of palette, texture and atmosphere.

 A single piece of reclaimed Korean pine was used for the imposing five-metre bench that takes central place and houses the point of sale, cushioned by coir matting; product display shelves are also crafted from local timber. A Charles Pollock chair and Gaetano Sciolari pendant lamp provide understated points of contrast, complemented by discreet accents of blackened steel.

 Visitors can explore and select from a complete range of skin, hair and body care products, distinguished by botanical and laboratory-generated ingredients of the highest quality. Trained consultants are able to offer advice about formulations best suited to individual needs.
